Urhonda Dakota Smith is a pianist, songwriter, and vocalist born in Atlanta, Georgia. She is honored to use her creative gifts in both teaching and performance, dedicating her musical talents to God and to inspiring others through the arts.
Urhonda earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Music Studies from Georgia State University and later received her Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of West Georgia. Her educational background uniquely equips her to teach with both artistic excellence and compassionate understanding.
From an early age, Urhonda was introduced to a variety of activities, including swimming, ballet, and piano. At just six years old, she discovered her passion for piano and began taking private lessons. She studied multiple styles of music, including classical, traditional, contemporary, and Romantic-era works. Her love for music soon expanded into singing and performing at home, church, and school events.
By the age of twelve, Urhonda began teaching piano lessons to friends and family.
Throughout her school years, she played the clarinet and participated in symphonic, jazz, and marching band, earning the honors of Student Director and Ms. Band in high school.
As a teenager, she developed her skills as a songwriter and strengthened her ear-training abilities. She has written, copyrighted, and published several original songs across various platforms, all delivering positive and uplifting messages that resonate with audiences of all ages.
During her adolescent and young adult years, Urhonda served as a children’s choir director and church keyboardist, teaching songs infused with biblical meaning and spiritual encouragement. Today, she continues to share her gift through singing in choir and as a soloist, while teaching piano, voice, and acting. She has also expanded her expertise into music production, including mixing and mastering.
Through every stage of her journey, Urhonda remains committed to cultivating creativity, confidence, and lasting talent in every student she teaches.
